Overview
Mercer is seeking a talented individual to join the CIO team in one of our offices in Atlanta, NYC, Boston, Chicago, Minneapolis, or St. Louis. The role is hybrid, requiring at least three days a week in the office.
As part of the Alternatives team within the Office of the CIO, you will serve Mercer’s large discretionary and advisory institutional client base. The senior investment professional will bring best‑in‑class alternatives services to clients across the real‑estate landscape, covering strategy, asset allocation, and advisory or outsourced fiduciary implementation.
Responsibilities- Construct real‑estate portfolios across key client segments, including insurance, healthcare, endowments, foundations, and defined benefit.
- Provide clients with market‑trend updates, best ideas, and any developments within the real‑estate space.
- Be a thought leader in real estate and a dependable resource to educate stakeholders through written papers and in‑person presentations.
- Identify growth opportunities within the industry and collaborate with the broader business to explore and implement them.
- Collaborate with leaders across various segments to provide up‑to‑date market developments, research tools, and bespoke client solutions.
- Help create and drive real‑estate thought leadership via Strategic Research Teams.
- Participate in all alternatives team meetings, group projects, town halls, and team activities.
- Engage in internal committees, work streams, and talent development.
- Serve as a brand ambassador by increasing Mercer’s visibility externally through thought leadership, conference presentations, and new‑business pursuits.
- Run client meetings and manage a team without assistance.
- BA/BS degree in finance, economics, or a related business field.
- 7+ years of experience within alternative investments.
- Strong foundational knowledge of the real‑estate asset class, including research, advice, and solutions across the continuum.
- Numerate with an analytical mindset.
- Adaptable self‑starter capable of working autonomously with sophisticated clients.
- Fluency in the four sub‑strategies of real‑estate and their risk/return positions.
- Knowledge of fund structures and terms across the real‑estate landscape.
- Ability to support client‑facing consulting colleagues on alternatives topics.
- Experience working with institutional client types such as insurance, endowments, foundations, healthcare, and pensions.
- CFA, CAIA, or FINRA 7 or 63.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $144,000 to $288,000. The base pay will be determined by experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance‑based incentives.
