Assurance Senior, Healthcare
BDO USA is seeking an Assurance Senior to coordinate the day‑to‑day "in‑charge" duties of planning, fieldwork, and wrap‑up, including preparing financial statements with disclosures, applying GAAP, and documenting, validating, testing and assessing control systems. The role also serves as the client contact for basic questions and information, and may be involved in reviews and agreed‑upon procedure engagements.
Responsibilities- Coordinate day‑to‑day audit tasks including planning, fieldwork, and wrap‑up.
- Prepare financial statements with disclosures in accordance with GAAP.
- Document, validate, test, and assess various control systems.
- Act as client contact for basic questions and information.
- Conduct reviews and agreed‑upon procedure engagements as needed.
- Apply knowledge of transactional flow and key cycles to complete audit work.
- Document, validate, and assess the design and operating effectiveness of client internal control systems.
- Identify and communicate suggested improvements to client internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Supervise and review the work of audit staff.
- Communicate financial statement disclosure requirements to clients.
- Draft complex sets of financial statements with disclosures.
- Recognize and apply new pronouncements to client situations.
- Analyze and discuss alternative GAAP with managers and partners.
- Identify complex accounting issues and bring them to superiors for resolution.
- Coach less experienced team members in new areas.
- Read and review clients’ SEC filings, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare required communications to the client and audit committee.
- Plan and execute Section 404 internal control audits.
- Formulate and communicate the audit plan.
- Apply GAAS to complex issues and consult others as appropriate.
- Employ audit skepticism and determine test scope.
- Utilize BDO audit manuals and tools.
- Document deviations from BDO policy with approval.
- Coordinate day‑to‑day conduct of the audit plan, ensuring field work is executed on time and within budget.
- Apply BDO audit approach and methodologies, including tools and technology.
- Identify and propose outcomes to critical issues.
- Utilize internal and external research tools for routine requests.
- Research complex accounting areas, form an initial opinion, and document the impact.
- Assist the engagement manager with gathering information about the business and accounting system.
- Develop audit engagement planning memorandum, programs, and budgets.
- Collaborate with the engagement manager to assign responsibilities to audit staff.
- Provide verbal and written performance feedback to audit associates.
- Supervise work assignments of audit associates.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics (required) or Bachelor’s degree in other focus area with CPA certification (required).
- Master’s degree in Accountancy (preferred).
- Two or more years of relevant audit experience (public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting).
- Prior basic supervisory experience (preferred).
- Eligibility to sit for the CPA exams upon starting employment and actively pursuing completion (required).
- CPA certification (preferred).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (preferred).
- Experience with assurance applications and research tools (preferred).
- Solid understanding of GAAP, GAAS, Sarbanes‑Oxley, and professional standards.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and work independently in a deadline‑driven environment.
- Superior analytical and diagnostic skills.
- Solid project management skills.
- Solid understanding of internal accounting controls and professional standards and regulations.
