Job SummaryThe Substation Technician maintains and performs repairs, modifications, replacements, and installation of a wide variety of electrical and electronic equipment systems while adhering to EEI’s Safety First culture. This role supports the construction of new substations as well as modifications and upgrades of existing substations for electrical utility companies. Per diem is provided when applicable.
Responsibilities- Work safely while assisting in new or existing construction and tasks such as demolition, site preparation, excavating, back filling, landscaping, trenching, pole setting, and cable labeling.
- Read and understand system maps and become knowledgeable in general electric distribution system layout, system substation capacities, load areas, substation circuit feeds, and general system sectionalizing.
- Assist with installing transformers, transformer banks, bus structures and switch gear, lines (underground/overhead), ground grid, control buildings, and other related substation material tasks.
- Able to operate forklifts and maintain a valid forklift certification.
- Will work with man baskets, skid steers, shovels, compactors, backhoes, and other industry equipment.
- Frequently work around energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care.
- Understands and complies with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics. Other duties as assigned by Management.
