- UT Health Athens is a 127‑bed facility, including a 24‑hour ED, designated as a Level IV trauma center and Level III stroke center; advanced diagnostic technology; 10‑bed ICU; maternity unit, radiation therapy center; and a stand‑alone ED in Gun Barrel City.
- Work under limited supervision and perform all duties, including assisting patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, and other ADLs.
- Observe patient progress and prepare and disseminate reports to the Registered Nurse or other medical staff.
- Obtain and record vital signs and collect specimens for lab tests.
- Provide basic patient transport and housekeeping duties.
Measure and record intake and output and other measurements, assist patients with range of motion, and draw blood. - Assist with treatments, perform technical procedures such as feeding tube and catheter administration, suture/staple removal, splinting of extremities, and perform ECGs as ordered.
- Coordinate daily activities for assigned unit, including general clerical and administrative support, and participate in performance improvement activities to enhance and maintain personal and departmental qualifications and standards of performance.
Job Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of approved CNA or PCT certification, or be in the senior year of nursing school with less than one semester to complete the program.
- For Emergency Room departments – completion of an approved EMT Basic certification may substitute for CNA/PCT certification. Paramedic license may fulfill all certification requirements.
- Must maintain active certification within the State of Texas.
- Competent to perform in at least two general areas of practice (cross‑trained and cross‑competent to cover more than one hospital service, role, or function).
- BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
Preferred
Job Requirements:
- 5 years’ experience in acute or long‑term care.
- Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy.
