The College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) at Athens State University invites applications for a tenure‑track open rank position in English. The position requires teaching effectiveness, scholarship, and service (institutional, professional, and community). During the 9‑month contract of employment, faculty members are expected to be available to assist and work with students and respond to unit, division, college, and institutional needs.
In addition to adhering to the general faculty guidelines, as specified by Athens State University, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and The Provost/VPAA , duties include:
Duties- Teach a variety of upper‑division (junior/senior) courses in support of programs in English in traditional, blended, and online course delivery formats
- Develop, revise, and deliver courses that ensure quality and effective assessment
- Work with and advise a range of students in English and English Language Arts to assist them in achieving academic and career success
- Engage in research/scholarship/professional development appropriate for a teaching institution to maintain currency in disciplinary field(s)
- Maintain office and student contact hours
- Serve on university, college, department, and departmental committees
- Participate in the recruitment activities of the English program, department, college, and university as appropriate
- Assume any other professional duties and responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :
- An earned Ph.D. in English from an accredited institution.
- Experience teaching at the baccalaureate level or higher
- The ideal candidate will be qualified to teach a variety of courses that may include:
Literature of the Early Americas, Modern American Literature, and Contemporary American Literature, Post‑Colonial Literature, as well as other Literature courses as needed. - Recommended:
Experience teaching in traditional and online formats, experience with socio‑linguistics.
Qualifications Preferred:
Ideal candidate should also have experience and be ready to work with student research, directed study, and related student activities. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to the excellence of the academic community.
