Extended Police Officer Pool Posting
Ohio University is currently accepting applications for Police Officer to create an Eligibility List that will be used to fill approved vacancies throughout the next year.
New hires are eligible for a sign-on bonus of $5,000.00.
Application RequirementsAll applicants must apply to this posting and pass the written test. The written test is conducted online through the National Testing Network. Applicants must receive an average score of 70 or higher to pass.
All OPOTA certified applicants who register, take, and pass the written test will be invited to interview. All non‑OPOTA certified applicants who pass will be contacted to schedule a fitness test conducted on the Athens campus of Ohio University.
Applicants who will possess OPOTA certification by the fitness testing date must submit a copy to the Ohio University Police Department to be exempt from the physical fitness component. Those who have completed an Ohio basic academy but do not have OPOTA certification/letter by the fitness testing date must complete and successfully pass the physical fitness portion. Anyone without OPOTA certification must complete the physical fitness portion.

ResponsibilitiesUnder general supervision, patrol grounds and buildings to protect lives and property, prevent crimes and enforce laws, investigate crimes. Carries firearms and/or makes arrests and testifies in court. Makes police presentations to groups and organizations.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
- Must possess a current Ohio Police Officer Training Academy Certificate or obtain certification as required by the Chief.
- High school diploma or its equivalency required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Must be at least 21 years of age and successfully complete a written and physical fitness examination.
- Finalists will undergo a psychological test, a polygraph, and a comprehensive background investigation.
- Applicants must possess basic reading, writing, and math skills.
- Successful applicants must meet Occupational Health Medical standards for the position and classification.
