The Center for Student Engagement and Leadership (CSEL) is seeking motivated, responsible, and student-centered individuals with a passion for campus programming and event planning. Program Specialists support the planning, promotion, and execution of major campus events and initiatives while contributing to a vibrant and inclusive student experience at Ohio University.
Duties and Responsibilities
Research events occurring on campus, in the local community, and at peer institutions to inform CSEL programming decisions
Plan, implement, execute, and evaluate assigned CSEL events and initiatives
Promote and represent CSEL programs and events across campus
Assist with major departmental events, including but not limited to Welcome Week, Homecoming, and Senior Week
Maintain organized files, records, and evaluations to support future programming efforts
Communicate regularly and professionally with fellow student staff and CSEL professional staff
Meet with student organizations interested in hosting campus programs
Deliver presentations on behalf of CSEL related to programming best practices
Represent CSEL at Bobcat Student Orientation and involvement fairs
Maintain and update the Bobcat Connect calendar
Perform additional duties as assigned

Job Profile
Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Assists with planning and organizing University events, such as speakers, conferences, or campus gatherings. Duties include coordinating logistics, working with vendors, and managing event details to ensure smooth execution.
Level Summary
Performs basic tasks and assists with administrative or operational duties under supervision. Roles are entry-level and aimed at providing exposure to workplace environments.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Limited supervisory responsibilities. May supervise other student workers.
Fiscal Responsibilities:
No budgetary responsibility.
Problem Solving:
Addresses routine, well-defined problems under supervision.
Independence of Action:
Works under close supervision.
Communication and
Collaboration:
Communicates primarily with supervisor and peers. Collaborates with team members to accomplish tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
Enrolled for classes at Ohio University, Hocking College, another post-secondary education institution, or a secondary school during the current semester, immediate previous semester, or immediate upcoming semester. Able to follow instructions and complete tasks within deadlines. Basic knowledge of office software and communication tools. Departments may have specific minimum requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior involvement in student organizations or campus programming
Experience with event planning, marketing, or leadership roles
Familiarity with Bobcat Connect or similar campus platforms
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Effective time management and multitasking abilities
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Self-motivated with creative problem-solving abilities
Ability to collaborate within a team environment
Ability to take direction and work independently
Willingness to work some evenings, early mornings, and weekends as needed
Working Condition/Physical Demands:
This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.
