Job Title: Certified Flight Instructor 1 (Pool Posting)
Position Summary: This is a pool posting with a rolling application period that will continue through November 17, 2026. The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree and must hold FAA certifications and licenses indicating experience and ratings as a Commercial Pilot, Instrument Pilot, and Certified Flight Instructor. Minimum flight hour requirements: 250 flight hours, 100 hours PIC, and 25 hours of actual or simulated instrument time.
Experience instructing in any field is required.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide intermittent flight instruction, on an as‑needed basis, to students enrolled in the University and to students in our Community Flight Program. The instructor will provide ground and flight instruction in accordance with Part 141 Syllabus and FARs; review, study, and apply FAR revisions, additions, and changes; verify completeness and accuracy of student log books and training needs;
ensure students are prepared and scheduled for stage checks; and ensure student compliance with all policies and procedures of the Aviation Department and the FAA, including ground and flight safety.
- Monitors and maintains airplane safety, conducts airplane maintenance, and pilots aircraft under the Aviation Flight, Aviation Management, and Aviation Technology programs in the research mission of the Avionics Engineering Center.
- Performs professional‑level work that involves basic, operational problem‑solving.
- Independently resolves day‑to‑day issues and executes clearly defined tasks.
- Provides data analysis and informational insights to support decision‑making.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: None; may assist with training student employees.
- Fiscal Responsibilities: No budgetary responsibility.
- Problem Solving: Solves routine problems with defined processes and guidance.
- Independence of Action: Works under close supervision.
