The Ohio Department of Behavioral Health is the state’s provider of comprehensive behavioral health services. With over 2,800 employees, DBH operates inpatient hospitals, Ohio Pharmacy Services, state prison health programs, and a statewide central office. DBH is committed to recovery‑focused, person‑centered care for individuals and families affected by mental health and substance use disorders.
What You’ll Do- Deliver recovery‑focused medical care in a collaborative setting, including performing patient admissions, preliminary evaluations, and emergency medical services.
- Consult with physicians, nurses, psychiatrists, physical therapists, social workers, and other professionals to determine specialized treatment plans and appropriate medical interventions.
- Document patient encounters, write medical evaluations, complete admission and discharge records, interpret laboratory reports, and issue orders and instructions to nursing staff.
- Participate in quality‑assurance activities, attend committees, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Cover on‑call shifts as required and support the unit during staffing changes.
Hourly wage in the state‑adjusted pay range P2, with the potential for a step‑up after six months of satisfactory performance and annual raises thereafter. The position is supported by a generous recruitment and retention supplement. Additional benefits include:

Certificate to practice medicine issued by the State Medical Board in accordance with Ohio Revised Code §§4731.14 and , or a limited registration with subsequent application for the next available biennial medical state board examination. Foreign medical graduates must obtain a limited certificate by passing the Federation Licensing Examination (Section ).
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be further evaluated against criteria including qualifications, experience, education, an active disciplinary record, and work record.
