the College/Unit/Department

Part of the Division of Student Affairs, University Housing consists of nearly 2.8 million square feet of facilities and is home to more than 9,000 students. The department employs 220 full‑time staff members, 21 graduate assistants and 565 undergraduate student workers. As a self‑supporting auxiliary, University Housing operates a $59 million budget derived only from student housing fees and other non‑state sources.

Position Summary

The primary function of this position is to support the administrative burden regarding parts, supplies and materials, oversee the training of entry level maintenance staff and perform a variety of building maintenance tasks in and around the residence halls of the assigned facilities zone. This position serves one of five facilities zones housing between 1,000 – 2,000 residents. It is expected to maintain a working knowledge of the building elements and facility components within the assigned area and support cross‑training to accept from and support other personnel of adjacent zones.

The position performs duties necessary to uphold communication and customer service with a variety of peers, residents and other departmental stakeholders; performs periodic duties during weekend and holiday shifts to uphold the standards of care for a 24‑hour, seven‑day a week residential program.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Safely operates and uses various tools associated with the skilled trades worker field, e.g. power and hand tools.
  • Carries out work assignments with the expected degree of independence and with limited callbacks for cleanup or additional repairs.
  • Effectively communicates and collaborates in a professional and consistent manner with a wide variety of individuals such as building service workers, residence hall staff, students/families and other team members via telephone, in writing, or in person.
  • Proven ability to work as a team member.
