- Prepare walls and other surfaces for painting by scraping, sanding, removing old paint, etc.
- Fill cracks and holes with appropriate material.
- Clean and prep all materials for painting.
- Apply paint by spraying and/or rolling and/or using a brush.
- Assist other skilled tradesmen and perform related work as required.
- Move furniture and operate forklift and mobile platform.

This position is responsible for preparation and paint-related work on campus facilities, including determining painting needs, color blending and matching, and sequencing of painting operations and methods. Responsibilities include maintaining tools and equipment, paint stock, and proper paint disposal. Work is performed under general direction from a supervisor and is reviewed via ongoing inspection. The position may perform other related facilities operation and maintenance tasks.
Qualifications/ Knowledge & Abilities
- Verifiable skills as a painter; understanding of paint required for interior and exterior applications.
- Knowledge of equipment required for paint preparation and application; general knowledge of hand and power tools used in facility maintenance.
- Thorough knowledge of standard painting methods, equipment, materials, tools, and practices.
- Hazard awareness and safety precautions related to the trade.
- Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and university personnel.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds.
Use hands to reach and handle tools; climb ladders and scaffolds; work from heights; lift up to 40 pounds; drive forklifts and vehicles.
