Facilities and Security Coordinator

The University of Georgia Libraries is seeking a Facilities and Security Coordinator to report to the Facilities Director and manage facilities operations and building security for the Libraries, primarily the Main Library. The role enforces conduct policies, monitors alarm and surveillance systems, coordinates building maintenance and renovation projects, supports student security workforce, and assists with special events. The position requires a flexible seasonal schedule and may involve non‑business hours as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license
  • 1 year supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPR and First Aid certification

  • Ability to make difficult decisions quickly, independently, and with good judgment.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with faculty, staff, students, and other patrons.

Physical Demands
  • Lifting large items weighing approximately 25–50 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate operations of the student security workforce for the Main and Science Libraries in partnership with the Assistant Facilities and Security Manager.
  • Communicate with student employees regarding issues and changes that they need to be aware of.
  • Enforce procedures and policies to promote a secure environment within the Libraries’ public areas.
  • Assist the Facilities Director and Main Security Lead with renovation and relocation projects: moving furniture, prepping areas, arranging alternative spaces, and coordinating with Facilities Management Division and external contractors.
  • Help hire and supervise student security assistants; prepare and update training manuals and procedures.
  • Provide assistance to security and facilities colleagues in other Library buildings (McBay Science Library, Miller Learning Center, Special Collections Library).
  • Assist with monitoring the maintenance of furniture, utilities, computers, and signage; resolve facility usage problems with custodial staff, facilities personnel, vendors, or maintenance personnel.
  • Maintain security staffing schedule, notify students of scheduling changes, and be available for shifts when needed, including non‑business hours if required.
  • Liaise with the UGA Police Department in reviewing and creating video surveillance footage when requested.
  • Support an emergency preparedness program for all library facilities, reviewing and implementing procedures for weather‑related and medical emergencies.
  • Maintain flexibility and awareness of changes and needs in security and facility management to facilitate workflow throughout the department.
