This position is for a Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Infectious Diseases, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Georgia. The applicant will lead animal studies in compliance with the Guide and OLAW regulations, develop animal use protocols (AUPs) and pursue approval with the institutional IACUC. The applicant is expected to work closely with Prof. Frederick Quinn (PI) and assist him with grant writing as well as pursue extramural funding.
The applicant is expected to develop and sustain an independent research program and train the next‑generation of mycobacteriologists. The applicant will collaborate with other PIs within the Emory/Georgia TRAC program and is encouraged to contribute to graduate‑level teaching and serve as a graduate thesis committee member.
- Lead animal studies in compliance with Guide and OLAW regulations.
- Develop AUPs and pursue IACUC approval.
- Assist PI with grant writing and pursue extramural funding.
- Develop and sustain an independent research program focused on mycobacteriology.
- Collaborate with other PIs within the Emory/Georgia TRAC program.
- Contribute to graduate‑level teaching and serve on graduate thesis committees.
- Ph.D., D.V.M., or M.D. or equivalent degree(s).
- Minimum of 15 years of research experience with mycobacterial species, focusing on pathogenesis, transmission, biomarker characterization for diagnostics and vaccine development, drug discovery studies, and working with a variety of animal models in an ABSL‑3 environment.
