Position Summary: This grant‑funded post‑doctoral position in the Joyner lab focuses on the genotype‑phenotype relationships of the relapsing malaria parasites Plasmodium cynomolgi and Plasmodium vivax. The candidate will oversee day‑to‑day project management, analyze and interpret study data, prepare grants and reports, and develop manuscripts for publication. The role also includes active training and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students.
Responsibilities- Plan, execute, and perform experimental studies and data analysis.
- Mentor and train undergraduate and graduate students.
- Prepare publications, reports, grants, and presentations.
- Minimum:
PhD or equivalent and experience in related fields. - Preferred:
Experience with culture and isolation of malaria parasites, genetic manipulation of malaria parasites, next‑generation sequencing analysis of parasite genomes using long and short‑read sequencing, and basic laboratory skills including PCR and cloning.
- Learn and design new experimental approaches and procedures.
- Solve technical problems efficiently and independently.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment; train others effectively.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a productive team member.
Physical Demands: Frequent movement between facilities, occasional operation of heavy equipment, lifting more than 40 pounds, standing for long periods.
