Post-Doctoral Associate - Woodson
Position Overview:
The Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems (IRIS) and the Department of Geology at the University of Georgia are hiring for a 1‑year renewable (up to 4 years) postdoctoral research position. The successful candidate will develop a regional groundwater model for southeast and coastal Georgia, run future climate and development scenarios, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams. The postdoc will be supervised by Brock Woodson, College of Engineering, and Adam Milewski, Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics.
Employment Type:
Employee – Standard university business hours, Monday‑Friday, 40 hours per week. Salary: $55,000–$75,000; commensurate with experience.

- Work with an interdisciplinary team of engineers, geologists and other scientists to co‑develop and implement research on the economic, ecological, and social impacts related to groundwater along the Georgia coastal region (50% time).
- Participate in community outreach activities along the Georgia coastal region (15% time).
- Support and mentor graduate and undergraduate students (15% time).
- Co‑author journal manuscripts, research reports, factsheets, and other written or video materials (10% time).
- Communicate regularly and in a timely fashion with project PIs regarding research and other issues relevant to the operation of the laboratory (10% time).
- A PhD in economics, civil, or environmental engineering, or a related field, completed by January 2025.
- Experience in modeling with Visual Mod Flow Flex 8 or other Mod Flow versions.
- Expertise in geospatial methods, data analysis and visualization.
- Experience working on interdisciplinary teams.
- Expertise in coupled human‑environment systems; record of publishing in peer‑reviewed journals; and experience communicating to diverse audiences.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills related to numerical modeling of groundwater flows.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Standard for office/lab/research field environments.
