- Field Data Collection (55%) : Deploying/retrieving ARUs; conducting avian point-counts and vegetation surveys; setting and collecting pollinator traps and preparing insect specimens for transport; occasionally assisting with mammal surveys and line transects for gopher tortoises.
- Data Management (15%) : Meticulous field data collection and entry into MS Excel and quality control/maintenance of digital records.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration : Coordinating site access with landowners and collaborating with partner scientists.
- Logistics & Maintenance : Cleaning, calibrating, and maintaining field gear and equipment; and vehicle upkeep.
Position Summary: The Martin Game and Managed Ecosystems (G.A.M.E.) Lab at the University of Georgia is seeking two highly motivated field technicians for the project: “Resilient Ecosystems and Communities with Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) Longleaf Pine Practices in Georgia.” These positions are part of a large‑scale research effort evaluating ecological outcomes of longleaf pine restoration on former agricultural lands. Technicians will primarily conduct avian and pollinator surveys across the southern plains region of Georgia.
Primary responsibilities include deploying and monitoring Autonomous Recording Units (ARUs), conducting avian point‑counts, setting pollinator traps, and collecting/preparing insect specimens. Additional duties include equipment maintenance, meticulous data entry, and coordinating property access with landowners, university staff, and other researchers.
