Position SummaryA Biological Science Technician supports scientific research, laboratory and field studies focused on peanut genetics and pre-breeding.
Responsibilities- Assist with planting, growing, harvesting, and maintaining plants in greenhouses and experimental field plots.
- Collect, prepare, and verify samples and supporting information from field and laboratory data.
- Assist in laboratory-based genetic analyses for plant breeding, including DNA extraction.
- Keep detailed records of experimental data and compile data from various sources.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety and experimental protocols, maintain equipment, and accurately record data for research in plant biology.
A Bachelor’s degree in plant genetics, plant breeding, horticulture, biology, or related biological sciences. Qualifying experience includes participation in a biological science research project related to plants by collecting and evaluating plants in a laboratory, field, or greenhouse environment; compiling records and analyzing experimental data; and operating scientific laboratory equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesDetail‑oriented biological science technician with knowledge of basic principles of biological sciences, such as plant genetics, breeding, physiology, pathology, biochemistry, or microbiology. Ability to perform precise laboratory and field assignments, including collecting samples, conducting experiments, and accurately recording data. Follow strict protocols for data collection and prepare detailed reports. Accuracy and safety adherence are essential skills.
Physical DemandsExposure to outside and greenhouse weather conditions, including high temperatures.
