Position Summary

This incumbent will generate, maintain, differentiate, and characterize animal‑derived primary stem cells to develop organoid cultures. Additional responsibilities involve culture‑dependent or culture‑independent microbiology and molecular microbiology on biologic tissues, establishing protocols for genetic modification and perturbation of cellular pathways of organoids, maintaining records, equipment, inventory, and ensuring lab organization, safety compliance, and overall lab quality. The employee should be very organized, have good communication skills, and adhere to standard laboratory practices.

Responsibilities include designing and carrying out research projects, directing daily operations of a team, maintaining research protocol, data collection, analysis, interpretation, maintaining equipment, and presenting research findings to other staff.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, design, and conduct research to study canine primary stem cells and organoid cultures to perform various RNA and phenotypic screens.
  • Review progress and evaluate results of moderately complex research projects or experiments.
  • Formulate research methods for study of specific epithelial cell functions, suggest options for improving quality, identify potential problems, recommend and implement solutions, and collaborate in the development of new techniques.
  • Assist with writing peer‑reviewed publications and grants.
  • Train users in equipment operation and laboratory techniques, explain and demonstrate technology and equipment capabilities, operations, limitations and outcomes.
  • Coordinate data collection and screening and verify the data.
  • Conduct analysis of data, interpret and implement research methodology based on outcome of analysis.
Lab Operations and Maintenance
  • Clean, maintain and prepare supplies and work areas.
  • Maintain lab in compliance with safety regulations for hazardous waste, biosafety, and chemical inventory.
  • Develop and/or update biosafety and animal protocols.
  • Maintain research protocols, standard operating procedures and training manuals to support multiple research projects conducted by faculty, staff, and students.
Student Supervision
  • Supervise undergraduate students.
  • Organize lab and maintain equipment.
  • Order lab supplies.
  • Maintain lab inventory and keep stock of lab supplies.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2‑year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact Human Resources for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications: PhD required for this position.
