Position SummaryAssist graduate students, a professor, and a laboratory coordinator with various research projects in the laboratory and field. Responsibilities include field collection of insect samples, correct preparation and preservation of specimens, sorting insects in the lab, cleaning and maintaining field equipment, data entry, and microscope work. This is a limited-term position and is contingent on funding. Position will end September 2022.
Knowledge,Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies
- Be able to use and enter data into Excel.
- Ability to multitask and work on several projects concurrently.
- Flexibility in schedule; willingness to travel long distances and partake in overnight trips in the Southeast.
- Capable of performing monotonous tasks such as extended microscope work.
Willing to work in extreme temperatures and endure hiking to collect trap samples. Lift up to 50 lb boxes of traps and/or lures occasionally. Driving required.
Responsibilities- Field work:
Trapping, forest measurements, and collecting field data (50% approximate). - Lab work:
Sorting and identifying insect samples; data entry; microscope work (30% + 10%).
Minimum Qualifications: Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your HR office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the minimum qualifications.
Additional Requirements- Duties/Responsibilities are subject to change based on funding and department needs.
