Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and some related experience or equivalent combination required. Area-specific certification and/or training may be required and other training will be provided as appropriate.
Position Summary: Technical and professional responsibilities associated with this position include field and laboratory research and diagnostics related to wildlife health. Included will be both the supervision of others doing this work and active participation in completing these tasks. Also included is the supervisory responsibility of field and laboratory equipment maintenance (equipment and supplies) and assuring that all safety and regulatory requirements are met.
Precise records are required. Assistance in planning and selection of sampling and diagnostic approaches related to research projects and diagnostic samples, including assistance with both grant and manuscript preparation, also will be required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or
Competencies:
Basic skills related to wildlife biology and wildlife disease investigations (including necropsy and approved euthanasia techniques) and research. Experience with organizing and maintaining large data sets. Experience with work related to infectious pathogens and the maintenance of biosafety standards in the field.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Apply primary investigator’s directive, perform disease research and surveillance, and manage data collection for multiple projects from inception to conclusion. (30%)
- Supervise and train graduate students and other field/lab personnel including visitors from the USA and/or foreign countries regarding field operating procedures, techniques and methodologies. (20%)
- Coordinate & perform field and lab work associated with research projects. (10%)
- Independently analyzes data, write reports, present findings at international and national meetings, and coauthor papers for publication in scientific journals.
- Assist with laboratory analysis of samples when needed.
- Maintain all field and lab related items including ordering supplies, equipment, instrument calibration, inventory, hazardous waste management meeting all OSHA safety regulations.
