Responsibilities- Plan, establish, and execute small-scale and field-based research trials, including site preparation, planting, routine crop maintenance, treatment applications, and harvest activities in accordance with approved research protocols and project timelines.
- Collect, record, and manage research data from field, greenhouse, and laboratory trials using spreadsheets and database systems, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to data management standards.
- Coordinate planting schedules, treatment applications, and harvest operations with offsite growers and Extension collaborators to ensure consistency across research locations and compliance with experimental designs.
- Maintain experimental research plots at the Alapaha Farm, including pruning and training blackberry plants, managing irrigation, monitoring plant health, and ensuring plots meet research standards throughout the growing season.
- Apply pesticides and other crop protection materials in accordance with label requirements, safety regulations, and research protocols; maintain appropriate pesticide application records and hold a valid pesticide applicator license.

- Perform post-harvest laboratory evaluations, including measuring fruit quality parameters such as titratable acidity using laboratory instrumentation, and documenting results for analysis and reporting.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory, field, and greenhouse equipment, including reading and following equipment manuals, performing routine maintenance, and troubleshooting minor operational issues to ensure safe and reliable use.
- Provide technical support to PhD and Master’s-level student research projects, assisting with field and grower-site data collection, plot maintenance, and implementation of experimental procedures.
- Conduct greenhouse operations, including collecting plant growth measurements, obtaining soil samples, repairing or adjusting irrigation systems, and maintaining environmental conditions necessary for research trials.

- Participate in required safety and compliance training, including pesticide safety, PPE usage, and other institutional and regulatory trainings related to laboratory, field, and greenhouse work.
- Perform administrative and office-based research support activities, including assisting with manuscript preparation, compiling research reports, organizing datasets, and conducting basic statistical analyses using appropriate software.
