Position Summary
The Shamblin lab seeks laboratory assistants for wildlife and fisheries sample processing and DNA extractions for population genetic analyses. This position will assist graduate students and the lab manager with sample tracking, processing of blood, eggshell, skin, fin clips, and swab samples, and DNA extractions for genotyping and sequencing for fish and wildlife species of conservation concern. This position will also assist in sample archiving and general laboratory maintenance.
Duties/ Responsibilities
- 50% Sample tracking and processing for DNA extractions.
- 35% DNA extractions and sample archiving.
- 15% Dish washing and general lab maintenance.
- Candidate pursuing BS in biology, genetics, marine science, or wildlife/fisheries (preferred).
- Previous laboratory experience is a plus, but not required.
- Works well independently or in groups.
- Attention to detail.
- Good organizational and interpersonal skills.
Laboratory based; sit or stand at bench for extended periods; may lift up to 40 pounds occasionally.
