The Oncology unit here at Piedmont Athens Regional is home to medical oncology, surgical oncology, comfort care and inpatient hospice patients. We are CoC accredited allowing multiple education opportunities for our team. We feel strongly that in doing this we are able to provide our patients with informed, oncology centered care. Our nurses are or become chemotherapy/biotherapy administration certified through ONS.
We are proud to be able to administer as well as educate the patient and their support system about these medications. Our team strives to provide compassionate, high quality care to each patient we serve from admission to discharge.
The Oncology unit provides nursing care to patients utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care for patients. He/she functions within the framework of the policies and procedures of the organization and demonstrates professional growth and accountability. The staff nurse is responsible for maintaining standards of practice, coordinating patient care activities of all assigned staff in the provision of quality nursing care.

The staff nurse provides nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care for patients. He/she functions within the framework of the policies and procedures of the organization and demonstrates professional growth and accountability. The staff nurse is responsible for maintaining standards of practice, coordinating patient care activities of all assigned staff in the provision of quality nursing care.
Patient ratios are determined by various factors, including volume and acuity of patient needs. Extenuating circumstances may determine a need for lower or higher ratios.
QualificationsEducation
- Graduate from a nursing program Required
- Bachelors Degree Preferred
Work Experience
- No experience required New Graduates of a nursing program eligible Required
- Nursing Experience in Hospital Setting Preferred
- 1 year in a hospital setting for PRN positions Required
Licenses and Certifications
- RN - Registered Nurse - Georgia State Licensure and/or NLC/eNCL Multistate Licensure Current License in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC/eNCL Multistate License. Required
- BCLS - Basic Life Support Required
Additional Licenses And Certifications
- Advanced certification in field of specialty, if applicable (see addendum)
- Cardiac Tele: ACLS Certification;
Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date - Critical Care: ACLS Certification;
Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date - Dialysis: CDN (Certified Dialysis Certificate) preferred
- Emergency Department: ACLS and PALS Certification;
Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date - Infusion/Oncology:
Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification prior to independent chemotherapy administration - Pediatrics: PALS Certification; see notes for Piedmont locations; 180 Days Required
- Surgical Services: ACLS; PALS if unit provides care to pediatric patients or BLS within 180 Days
- Womens Services:
Multiple certifications; refer to notes; 180 Days Required
