Part of the Division of Student Affairs, University Housing consists of nearly 2.8 million square feet of facilities and serves more than 9,000 students. The department employs 220 full‑time staff members, 21 graduate assistants, and 565 undergraduate student workers. As a self‑supporting auxiliary, University Housing operates a $59 million budget derived solely from student housing fees and other non‑state sources.
Responsibilities- Clean, disinfect, and sanitize sinks, tubs, showers, commodes, walls, glass, mirrors, and windows in bathroom areas.
- Vacuum carpets and walk‑off mats to keep floors clean and free of debris.
- Clean furniture, light fixtures, walls, water fountains, fans, air vents, doors, kitchen appliances, ceilings, laundry rooms, and trash chute areas according to department standards.
- Clean baseboards and stairwells; mop, sweep, strip, wax, and buff hard floors.
- Collect and remove trash and debris; clean trash receptacles and change liners in offices and common areas; move recycled materials to designated area.
- Maintain operational supplies daily—refill soap dispensers, toilet tissue, paper towels, and hand sanitizer in restrooms, kitchens, and public spaces.
- Stock custodial closets and carts daily with supplies—cleaning chemicals, microfiber cloths, cleaning tools, can liners, and items deemed necessary by supervisor.
- Safely operate and use various types of floor equipment, tools, and products.
- Perform summer project work assignments such as deep cleaning resident rooms, common areas, windows, blinds, restrooms, kitchens; extract carpets; strip and wax hard floors.
- Receive and deliver mattresses.
- Pressure wash outside areas.
- Report damage and maintenance work requests to immediate supervisor and/or work control office.
- Report any equipment in need of repair to immediate supervisor.
- Receive and deliver miscellaneous supplies and goods to and from various buildings.
- Participate in team meetings; attend departmental training and events.
- Perform other duties consistent with the purpose and scope of this position, as assigned.
- Climb stairs and ladders (may occasionally work from a ladder).
- Bend at the waist and knees.
- Work with arms and hands outreached and overhead.
- Stand, kneel, or squat for long periods of time.
- Perform work related duties indoors with steam and humidity, hot/cold in building during various seasons and outdoors in different weather conditions.
- Lift and move items at least 50 pounds in weight, both assisted and unassisted.
- Work independently, as well as with others.
- Effectively organize time to fulfill all work requirements.
- Desire to create a clean and organized environment.
- Sufficient English proficiency to effectively communicate with staff and residents.
- Use computers to access UGA employee websites and UGA email, as necessary.
- Develop and maintain good relationships with personnel, residents, and various customer groups.
