Position Summary
The Building Services Worker II duties include sweeping, dust mopping, wet mopping floors, high and low dusting surfaces, and the use of small custodial equipment such as vacuum cleaners, wet/dry vacuums, and T‑1 scrubbers. The role requires cleaning windows, seals, walls, furniture, collecting and removing trash and recyclable waste, assisting with the delivery, receipt, and transport of supplies, sanitizing surfaces, and performing floor care with large specialized equipment (carpet cleaning and extraction, strip/wax/burnish floors, refinish wood floors).
The employee also maintains equipment safety, conducts weekly walk‑through inspections, and submits inspection reports.
- High school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of related experience.
- Custodial Experience & Equipment Use
- Proficiency with custodial tools such as vacuum cleaners, wet/dry vacuums, T‑1 scrubbers, and other small machines.
- Experience with specialized floor care equipment for tasks like carpet extraction, stripping/waxing, and refinishing wood floors.
- Experience with large specialized floor care equipment: carpet cleaning and extraction, strip/wax/burnish floors, refinish wood floors.
- Soft Skills & Availability
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Flexibility to work night shifts and weekends as needed.
- Perform floor care with large specialized floor care equipment: carpet cleaning and extraction, strip/wax/burnish floors, refinish wood floors.
- Responsible for safe operation and operator level maintenance of assigned equipment.
- Sweep, dust, wash, wet/dry mop, light floor maintenance, vacuum, and perform other duties as needed to maintain cleanliness of campus floors.
- Collect and remove trash and recyclables, clean and disinfect counters, restroom fixtures, equipment, and furnishings in labs, offices, classrooms, restrooms, clinics, recreational facilities, and other assigned work areas.
- Perform bodily fluid clean‑up or specialized viral/bacterial disinfection.
- Perform minor light bulb replacement from an 8’ ladder.
- Conduct walk‑through area/building inspections for cleanliness, conduct cleaning equipment inspections for safety hazards, and complete inspection reports to submit to lead/supervisor.
- Clean and restock restrooms; ensure adequate stock of resupply items in janitorial closets.
- Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships.
- Availability to work specified shift.
- Availability to work nights and weekends as needed.
- Lift up to 40 lbs.
- Push and pull custodial carts up to 40 lbs.
- Load and unload floor care machines up to 40 lbs.
- Frequently bend, squat, lift, kneel, and work with hands above head.
- Prolonged walking to and from buildings.
- Move throughout buildings to include climbing stairs and riding elevators to perform work.
- Work from 8 ft. ladders.
