Position Summary

The Institute of Government Operations Manager is responsible for managing the IT (network and desktop), and facilities needs for the Institute of Government, across all locations in Athens, Atlanta, UGA Gwinnett, and for employees working from off‑site locations. This role requires a collaborative leader with demonstrated technical expertise to manage and optimize IT and facilities operations in support of the Institute’s mission and day‑to‑day activities.

This Position Leads And Supervises All IT And Facilities Staff And Supports Institute Leadership Through Effective Coordination, Communication, And Operational Guidance With Primary Areas Of Focus That Include The Following:

  • Operational Efficiency: Ensuring IT systems and physical facilities run smoothly and meet the needs of the organization; developing and implementing support processes and procedures; assessing and recommending improvements to systems, tools, and workflows; supporting tools and technology solutions; creating and publishing support materials and documentation that promote consistency, clarity, and effective service delivery.
  • Security and Compliance: Maintaining robust IT security measures and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations that protect the organization from potential risk and liabilities, and escalating issues or concerns appropriately to institute leadership.
  • Innovation and Technology: Staying up to date with technology trends and implementing innovative solutions to support the organizational capabilities and growth while improving processes in alignment with institutional standards, timelines, and available resources.
  • Strategic Planning: Providing recommendations to senior management based on IT and facilities insights, ensuring alignment with overall strategic goals of the Institute of Government, and supporting leadership decision‑making through clear analysis and communication of operational considerations.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent plus 10 years of professional experience to include 3 years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of UGA technology platforms, services, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience working within a large, complex multi‑stakeholder organizational environment, such as a large public university or similar institution.
  • Experience partnering with central IT, facilities and enterprise service units.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify operational risks and effectively communicate recommendations to leadership.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Proven experience in IT and facilities management
  • Extensive technical knowledge of IT systems, networks, and security, including installation, support, and maintenance
  • Proven leadership and team management skills
  • Proven project management skills
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization, including clearly communicating issues, constraints, timelines, and recommendations
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities with attention to coordination, follow‑through, and accountability
Physical Demands
  • Normal office operating environment
  • On call for emergency response and system maintenance on a 24/7 basis
  • Some daily travel is required to Institute of Government locations outside of Athens
  • Ability to lift up to 45 pounds
