The Seafood Outreach Internship provides hands‑on opportunities to learn about local food systems and the seafood supply chain. Its purpose is to support Georgia Sea Grant in educating local communities and businesses about sustainable fisheries, aquaculture, seafood products and safety.
ResponsibilitiesThe intern will work closely with the Seafood Specialist to plan a capstone event about local aquaculture that will take place in August 2026.
Objectives- Become familiar with Georgia fisheries and aquaculture
- Expand knowledge about seafood nutrition, safety and consumer education
- Learn about the coastal environment and the interplay of ecology and seafood
- Apply knowledge to create outreach materials and participate in outreach activities
- Organize a capstone event about local aquaculture

- Majoring in nutrition, food science, fisheries or related studies
- Experience using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and email
- Valid state driver’s license
- Function as a team member with Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant faculty, staff, and other interns
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable interacting with the public of different age groups and backgrounds
- Interest in connections between ecosystems, food, and public health
- At least 18 years of age
- Intern must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university
- Completion of internship application and standard background check
- United States citizen or possess a valid U.S. work visa
- Physical ability to work outdoors in summer heat and lift objects up to 50 lbs
- Work outdoors in ambient conditions and lift objects up to 50 lbs
- Driving as needed for job duties
