Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant provides integrated research, education, and extension programs that foster the responsible use of Georgia’s coastal resources by individuals, decision‑makers, and management agencies. The program is managed through a federal–state partnership between the University of Georgia and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Sea Grant College Program, a national network of 34 Sea Grant programs in coastal and Great Lakes states and territories.

Every four years, the program develops a long‑range strategic plan that outlines goals, strategies, outcomes, and performance measures under four focus areas.

- Assist aquarium curators with animal husbandry and general aquarium operations, including food preparation, feeding, water quality monitoring, and cleaning and maintenance of tanks and filters.

Position is based at UGA Marine Education Center and Aquarium on UGA’s Skidaway Marine Science Campus, Skidaway Island (30 Ocean Science Circle, Savannah, GA). 10 weeks, 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Work dates:
May 19–Aug 5, 2026.
- Experience working with public groups including children.
- Knowledge of coastal fishes, marine invertebrates, and/or reptiles.
- Experience with aquarium science, tank maintenance, or working with aquatic animals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience using basic tools for monitoring water quality.
- Experience working on boats or in the field.
- Experience with aquatic animal collection (trawl, seine, cast nets, etc.).
- Work independently and as part of a small team of staff, volunteers, and other interns.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Completion of internship application and background check.
- United States citizen or possess a valid U.S. work visa.
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate marine science (or similar) program, or a recent graduate (within the previous year).
- Pre and post internship assessments, progress and summary reports, and exit interview.
