Minimum Qualifications
  • An ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or a terminal degree in a related field.
Additional Requirements
  • A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience (post-MLS or in health sciences practice).
  • Candidates will be considered at the rank of Librarian I, II, III, or IV.
Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in the sciences or demonstrated interest in library research in the sciences.
  • Evidence of meeting university standards in librarianship, teaching, scholarship, and service, in accordance with faculty standing.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Knowledge in health information resources and services (e.g., Pub Med, Upto Date, Clinical Key).
  • Background in working with health professional faculty, students, and/or clinicians.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective instruction sessions for individuals and groups in the classroom and/or clinical settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop instructional support materials in various formats or strong interest in doing so.
  • Expertise in teaching evidence-based medicine topics, including the ability to develop and deliver educational programs that enhance information literacy and support evidence-based healthcare practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently manage and implement multiple projects and priorities, ensuring timely and successful completion of tasks.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong collaborative planning and problem-solving abilities, with a proven track record of working effectively with teams to achieve goals.
  • Proficiency with Lib Guides or similar tools for creating online research guides.
  • Familiarity with citation management software.
  • Understanding of the academic healthcare environment and the librarian’s role within it.
Duties / Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the UGA SOM Library team to provide instruction for faculty, staff, and students on teaching, research, and learning information needs.
  • Lead educational programs on information literacy, evidence-based healthcare, and curriculum-related activities in Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) for faculty and learners.
  • Potential opportunities to serve as a faculty instructor for academic half days, teaching evidence-based information topics in collaboration with the UGA SOM Library team.
  • Equip faculty and medical students with the tools to locate and organize relevant information for patient care and scholarly activities.
  • Work collaboratively with medical faculty and students on their scholarly activities, including grant and manuscript submissions, and research consultations.
  • Participate in the assessment of student learning outcomes related to information literacy and evidence-based practice competencies.
  • Navigate technology needs, such as mobile applications and reliable, online health information platforms.
