Position Summary

This position is based in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and will act as a major gift officer for the college at‑large. Its purpose is to raise major gifts to support the Franklin College and the University of Georgia. This position will focus on gifts of $50,000 or more and will maintain a robust portfolio of current and prospective donors who can make a meaningful philanthropic investment in the College.

This position will work collaboratively with all departments and institutes of the college as well as a wide variety of constituents. An established track record in building meaningful relationships coupled with the ability to close philanthropic gifts is essential. The role will work closely with other major and principal gift officers within the College and across the University to advance gift solicitation strategies.

All work will be carried out in accordance with UGA Foundation policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Ability to write and speak with clarity and conviction.
  • Outstanding people skills are central.
  • Organizational skills to manage complex social and celebratory events.
  • Familiarity with Office and basic database usage.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain consistent donor outreach and activity.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of Franklin College major gift prospects; conduct qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship visits in Georgia and nationwide, targeting 10‑12 significant visits per month.
  • Maintain consistent outreach activity, including regular email, phone, and in‑person contact with prospects to build and advance relationships. Possibility of several overnight trips.
  • Complete necessary preparation and follow‑up for each visit.
  • Document visits in the GAIL alumni/donor database with complete contact reports.
  • Prepare timely, accurate, relevant, clear, concise, and compelling proposals to secure major ($50,000 gifts in support of Franklin College priorities.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the following areas of Franklin College:
    Social and Behavioral Sciences (Anthropology, Communication Studies, Criminal Justice Studies, Geography, Psychology, Sociology, Women’s and Gender Studies).
  • Lead the strategic development vision for prospects in this area.
  • Attend Franklin prospect strategy and staff meetings and represent this area’s needs in those meetings.
  • Attend University Development staff meetings and selected University Central Development trainings.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff located in schools, colleges, and units across campus.
