Assistant or Associate Professor – Meat Science Extension and Teaching

Location: Athens, Georgia (UGA Athens Campus), open rank (tenure track) with nine‑month contract.
Minimum qualifications:
Ph.D. in animal science, meat science, or closely related field.
This nine‑month, tenure track (65% Extension, 30% Teaching, 5% Service) appointment is in the Department of Animal and Dairy Science (College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences). The successful candidate will develop and lead a nationally/internationally recognized meat‑science Extension and teaching program, deliver undergraduate and graduate courses, and pursue externally funded applied research.
Major Responsibilities- Develop and lead a state‑of‑the‑art Extension program, collaborating with industry, county agents, and scientists.
- Serve as a resource on meat processing, fresh and processed meat production, and meat evaluation.
- Develop or contribute to a comprehensive meat‑science curriculum including meat evaluation, fresh meats, and processed meats.
- Advise undergraduate and graduate students, mentor those seeking industry experiences, and lead extracurricular learning experiences.
- Deliver guest lectures and support existing courses.
- Teach one graduate course in the area of expertise and undergraduate meat‑science courses.
- Seek and secure externally funded, applied research opportunities.
Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. in animal science, meat science, or related field.
Preferred education, experience, or credentials:
- Proven record of excellence in meat science.
- Experience carrying and publishing innovative research, securing extramural funding, and background in intercollegiate meat judging.
Preferred knowledge, skills, and competencies:
- Effective communication and collaboration with colleagues and meat‑industry professionals.
- To be considered at the rank of Associate Professor, candidates must have at least 5 full years at the Assistant Professor level.
- To be eligible for tenure upon appointment, candidates must be appointed as an Associate Professor, be tenured at a prior institution, and bring a demonstrable national reputation. Candidates must be approved for tenure before hire.
