Duties/Responsibilities
  • Independently lead, teach, manage K-12 grade students and chaperoning adults through multidisciplinary classes in an outdoor setting. Class subjects offered include a focus on coastal ecology, life science, earth science and marine science.
  • General support of overall center operations including maintenance and upkeep of facilities (dorms, classrooms, education materials, vehicles), operating a UGA (14-passenger) mini-bus, dining hall support and assistance, and projects as needed.
  • Animal care husbandry and maintenance for residential education reptiles, amphibians, marine invertebrates, coastal fishes, and more.
  • Lead staff responsibilities to support on-going reservations and guests.

Percentage Of Time (illustrative): 60% for duties above; 25% for general operations support; 10% for animal care; 5% for lead staff responsibilities.

  • Position Summary: This posting is for a temporary Environmental Educator at Burton 4-H Center located on Tybee Island, Georgia. The primary responsibility is to independently lead K-12 grade students through multidisciplinary classes in an outdoor setting. Class subjects offered include a focus on coastal ecology, life science, earth science and marine science. Other responsibilities include animal care, lead staff duties, general support of overall center operations.
Qualifications
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or

Physical Demands: Work outdoors in varied weather; may lift 20-40 pounds and walk approximately 3 miles daily. Driving required.
