The Department of Environmental Health Science and Institute of Gerontology in the College of Public Health at the University of Georgia seeks a tenure‑track Assistant or Associate Professor with an emphasis on One Health and environmental risk factors for neurodegenerative disease. This 9‑month appointment begins on August 1 2026 and may be supplemented with summer salary. The successful candidate will hold a joint appointment: 51 % in the Department of Environmental Health Science (tenure home) and 49 % in the Institute of Gerontology, with the opportunity to participate in the Cognitive Aging Research and Education (CARE) Center.
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, establishing and maintaining an externally funded research program, and engaging in community‑aligned scholarship. Exceptional candidates may be considered for appointment at the Associate rank.
Minimum Qualifications- Doctoral degree in environmental health, gerontology, computational neuroscience, neurobiology, or a related discipline (e.g., biology, environmental science, public health, toxicology).
- Strong record of scholarship and teaching in the One Health framework.
- Commitment to community engagement.
- For Associate‑rank appointments: evidence of acquiring and administering external funding (preferably current PI with existing grants), strong research communication, teaching excellence, and community engagement.
- Candidate must be approved for tenure upon appointment before hire.
- At least two years of post‑doctoral training or teaching after earning the PhD, and a record of relevant research publications.
- Extensive experience in teaching, research, and service related to One Health and environmental factors influencing aging, cognitive aging, dementia, or neurodegenerative disease.
- Research that bridges human, animal, and environmental systems using computational and/or integrative –omics technologies.
- Clinician‑scientist backgrounds (MD‑PhD, clinical neuropsychology) are encouraged.
- Demonstrated ability to submit strong, fundable extramural grant proposals and to communicate research results.
