Duties and Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities (Primary): Independently lead, teach, manage K-12 students and chaperoning adults through multidisciplinary classes in an outdoor setting. Class subjects include ecology, life science, and earth science.

Percent Time: 60%

Duties/Responsibilities (Support): General support of center operations including maintenance of facilities (dorms, classrooms, education materials, vehicles), operating UGA vehicles, dining hall support and assistance, and projects as needed.

Percent Time: 25%

Duties/Responsibilities: Animal care husbandry and maintenance for residential education reptiles, amphibians, and more.

Percent Time: 10%

Duties/Responsibilities: Lead staff responsibilities to support ongoing reservations and guests.

Percent Time: 5%

Qualifications

Classification Title: Temporary Service/Maintenance

FLSA: Non-Exempt

FTE: 1.0

Position Summary: This temporary Environmental Educator role at Wahsega 4-H Center in Dahlonega, GA, primarily leads K-12 students through multidisciplinary classes in outdoor settings. Subjects include life and earth science, ecology, team building, outdoor skills, and living history. Responsibilities also include animal care, maintenance of teaching areas and resources, facilities, grounds, and general operations support.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Education, Environmental Education, Forestry, Natural Resources, Outdoor Education, Science, or related field. First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain).

Physical Demands

Willing to work outdoors in varying weather; able to lift 20-40 pounds; walk up to 3 miles daily; tolerate heights and climbing; driving as needed.
