Position Summary

The Center for Vaccines and Immunology in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia seeks an outstanding researcher in immunology for a tenure‑track Assistant or Associate Professor faculty position. Applicants should have a track record of independent research, with interests focused on adaptive immunology. The Center seeks to complement existing strengths by recruiting faculty whose interests include infection and disease models for pathological assessment and vaccine or therapeutic development as a central component of their research program.

Candidates with foundational immunological processes that elicit protective immunity and/or modulate immunopathology are highly competitive.

The faculty candidate will be responsible for establishing and overseeing an independent, extramurally funded research program, engaging in collaborative research activities within the Center and across the College and University. Successful candidates will be encouraged to participate in a rich interdisciplinary and collegial environment provided by the Center for Tropical and Emerging Global Diseases, the Center for the Ecology of Infectious Diseases, the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center, the Center for Molecular Medicine, the Precision One Health Program, the Regenerative Bioscience Center, and the Isakson Center for Neurological Disease Research, as well as the Departments of Infectious Diseases, Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, and others.

Responsibilities
  • Establish and oversee an independent, extramurally funded research program.
  • Engage in collaborative research activities within and beyond the Center.
  • Mentor graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and undergraduate researchers.
  • Teach college‑level courses in undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional curricula.
  • Serve on faculty governance and committees.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in immunology, microbiology, infectious diseases, molecular biology, vaccines, or related field from an accredited university.
  • For Assistant Professor:
    Completed appropriate postdoctoral training and a proven track record of peer‑reviewed publications and competitive funding proposals.
  • For Associate Professor:
    Earned tenure at an accredited university, a record of publications in top‑tier peer‑reviewed journals, and experience as PI or Co‑PI on competitive extramural grants.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level.
  • Evidence of successful graduate student mentoring and service to the academic community.
  • Established record of collaborative research and external funding.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in translational research, vaccine development, or therapeutic interventions.
  • Track record of securing federal, philanthropic, or industry research funding.
  • Strong collaboration experience and leadership in interdisciplinary projects.
