Assistant/Associate Professor
Department of Environmental Health Science & Institute of Gerontology, College of Public Health, University of Georgia. This open rank, tenure‑track position will begin as a 9‑month academic appointment with potential summer salary supplement. Anticipated start date is 1 August 2026. Location is Athens, GA.
Position SummaryThe Department of Environmental Health Science (51%) and the Institute of Gerontology (49%) invite a candidate with expertise in One Health and environmental risk factors for neurodegenerative disease to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, establish and maintain an externally funded research program, and pursue a tenure track career. Exceptional candidates may be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in environmental health and gerontology.
- Develop and maintain a research program focused on One Health and neurodegenerative disease, including securing external funding.
- Conduct interdisciplinary research integrating human, animal, and environmental data via computational and omics technologies.
- Provide excellent teaching and mentorship to students.
- Engage in service and community outreach related to the Institute of Gerontology and the Department.
- Prepare for and achieve tenure upon appointment.
- Doctoral degree in environmental health, gerontology, computational neuroscience, neurobiology or a related discipline (e.g., biology, environmental science, public health, toxicology).
- At least two years of post‑doctoral or teaching experience after PhD with relevant research publications.
- Strong academic record in teaching, research, and service aligned with One Health.
- Evidence of external funding experience or current grants.
- Outstanding teaching and student engagement record.
- Experience with extramural grant proposals and integrative –omics approaches.
- Clinician‑scientist credentials (MD‑PhD, clinical neuropsychology).
