Duties and ResponsibilitiesTime Allocation:
- 80% – Independently lead K‑12 grade students through multidisciplinary classes in an outdoor setting.
- 15% – Provide animal care and maintenance of teaching areas.
- 5% – Assist other departments as needed and provide general support of overall center operations.
This temporary Environmental Educator position at Georgia 4‑H Centers involves independently leading K‑12 students through multidisciplinary classes in an outdoor setting, covering subjects such as life and earth science, ecology, team building, outdoor skills, and living history. Additional responsibilities include animal care, maintenance of teaching areas, resources, facilities, grounds, and supporting general operations of the facility.
Education & ExperienceCoursework in Biology, Education, Environmental Education, Forestry, Natural Resources, Outdoor Education, Science, or a related field. First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies- Commitment, genuine interest in child development, dynamic personality, and well‑developed communication skills.
- Creativity and leadership ability.
- Skill in teaching a wide variety of subjects to K‑12 youth.
- Broad knowledge of outdoor education and ability to work in an outdoor setting.
- Effective communication with youth and adults.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to care for live teaching animals (reptiles, amphibians, and others).
- Willingness to be trained in high and low ropes course facilitation.
Work when exposed to outdoor elements including, but not limited to, adverse physical and weather conditions. Willing to lift 20‑40 pounds and walk approximately 3 miles daily. Driving required.
