Position Details
Associate/Full Professor in Tropical Meteorology, Department of Geography, University of Georgia.
Location:
Athens, GA. Anticipated start date:
August 1, 2026. Open rank, tenure track.
Develop and maintain an externally funded research program on tropical meteorology and disaster risk communication.
Collaborate with campus faculty across the Presidential Strategic Hiring Initiative cluster in Disasters, Risk, and Communication, including the NSF‑funded Center for Innovation in Risk, Catastrophes, and Decisions (CIRCAD), UGA Research Institute (UGARI), and Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems (IRIS).
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in atmospheric science, including Atmospheric Dynamics, Atmospheric Physics, Mesoscale and Radar Meteorology, Satellite Meteorology, Synoptic Meteorology, and Weather Analysis and Forecasting.
Qualifications- Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences, Geography, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated national reputation in tropical meteorology and disaster risk communication.
- Proven ability to secure and manage external research funding.
- Strong record of teaching, student mentorship, and public engagement.
- Eligibility for tenure as an Associate Professor with prior tenure at a prior institution.
