Position SummaryAssist graduate students, professor, and laboratory coordinator with various research projects that are ongoing in the laboratory and in the field. This will entail field collecting of insect samples, correct preparation and preservation of specimens, sorting insects in the lab, cleaning and maintain field equipment, data entry, and microscope work. This is a limited term position and is contingent on funding.
Position will end September 2022.
Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2‑year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies- Use and enter data into Excel.
- Multitask since you will be working on several projects at once.
- Flexibility in schedule.
- Willing to travel long distances to collect samples that are in various regions of the Southeast and partake in overnight trips periodically.
- Capable of performing monotonous tasks such as looking through a microscope in the laboratory for hours at a time.
Willing to work in extreme temperatures and endure hiking to collect trap samples located throughout the state. Lift up to 50 lb boxes of traps and/or lures occasionally. Driving.
Duties / Responsibilities- Field work:
Trapping, forest measurements, and collecting field data. (50%) - Sorting and identifying insect samples in lab setting. (30%)
- Data Entry (10%)
- Microscope work (10%)
