Assistant Professor in Linguistics and Artificial Intelligence
Join the University of Georgia’s faculty as an Assistant Professor in Linguistics and Artificial Intelligence. We are inviting applications for a tenure‑track, joint‑hire position, with the Department of Linguistics as the home department for promotion and tenure.

Aboutthe Department and Institute
The Department of Linguistics and the Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IAI) represent a collaborative, multidisciplinary research environment. IAI manages the A.B. in Cognitive Science and two graduate AI degree programs, with an M.S. in AI that is one of the oldest such programs in the country and a Ph.D. in AI approved in 2022.
Position SummaryTeaching load includes four courses per year, covering introductory and advanced subjects within the candidate’s specialization. Additional duties include advising at all levels and service to the department and university.
Minimum Qualifications- Ph.D. in Linguistics, Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Science, or a closely related discipline, earned at the time of appointment.
- Strong research record that intersects linguistics and artificial intelligence.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring at undergraduate and graduate levels.
Preference will be given to candidates with a track record of contributions related to the safe, ethical, and responsible use of AI, or to investigating language models in healthcare and clinical contexts. A sophisticated understanding of human language processing, production, and/or acquisition is also highly valued.
Responsibilities- Teach four courses per year, including both introductory and advanced instruction.
- Advise undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students.
- Participate in departmental and university service activities.
- Maintain a productive research agenda at the intersection of linguistics and AI.
