Qualifications- A Master’s degree in business or a related area.
- A Bachelor’s degree is acceptable for a public service provisional appointment.
- Preferred:
Master’s degree. - Strong knowledge of core business functions—finance, marketing, operations.
- Experience in private sector or similar environment.
- Excellent analytic, project‑management, and communication skills.
- Desire to positively impact the small‑business community.
- Knowledge or familiarity with University of Georgia and SBDC programs is preferred.
Business Consultant responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide high‑quality individual instruction and educational support to entrepreneurs, business owners, and managers.
- Analyze client situations, make recommendations, and educate on business plans, market feasibility, financial viability, operations management, and legal structures.
- Maintain an appropriate client mix to meet annual goals.
- Develop and refine a consulting practice that yields impactful results.
- Develop and deliver business training programs responsive to the community’s needs.
- Create and produce instructional materials; serve as trainer and secure outside instructors as needed.
- Market training programs and meet annual attendance/participation goals.
- Identify specific expertise areas and develop new training programs, consulting tools, and research projects.
- Direct clients to other resources and disseminate relevant information via various media.
- Advocate for business development, expansion, and retention; act as a visible community leader.
- Engage in public relations activities: speeches, presentations, committee participation, stakeholder discussions.
- Assist in development, implementation, and updating of the organization’s strategic plan.
- Develop and deploy annual action and marketing plans aligned with strategic objectives.
- Prepare and execute work plans, including professional development initiatives aligned with office objectives.
- Support organizational improvement through committees, reviews, special projects.
- Participate in sponsorship acquisition strategies, co‑sponsor ships, and grant applications.
- Maintain accurate client records and provide required SBA reporting.
- Ensure efficient and effective operation within assigned area office.
Progression toward an advanced degree is expected during the provisional faculty period. Transition to full‑time public service faculty requires completion of an advanced degree and a recommendation.
Physical demands:
Position is a trust responsibility, requires driving; no direct child, patient care, or security access.
