Athabasca University's Learning Services Tutorial Department is seeking an Individualized Study Tutor for the following course:
ENGL 255:
Introductory Composition
Qualifications and Experience Required:
A minimum of a master's degree in English (PhD preferred), ideally with a specialization in composition or rhetoric.
The successful candidate will have strong subject-matter expertise in teaching first-year university composition. Primary responsibilities include communicating with students regularly, providing prompt academic assistance to students in an online environment, marking assignments, and recording final grades in accordance with university policies. Applicants should be comfortable providing extensive sentence-level and summative written feedback on student writing to support student writing development and managing ongoing asynchronous communication with a large and diverse student population.
Candidates whose primary teaching experience lies outside composition studies or university-level writing instruction will not normally be considered.
Experience with online or distance education is strongly preferred. Demonstrated proficiency using learning management systems and digital teaching technologies is required; experience with Brightspace is an asset. Strong knowledge of generative AI and its management are also essential.
This position requires excellent written communication, organizational, and administrative skills. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to manage high volumes of student correspondence professionally and promptly, maintain accurate electronic student records, mark and return student work within established university service standards, and work independently in a fully online teaching environment.
Candidates must have reliable access to a computer and high-speed internet capable of supporting continuous online communication, digital marking, and tutorial support activities.

Non-doctoral prepared employees: $243.25 prorated per block, per biweekly pay.
Doctoral prepared employees: $252.98 prorated per block, per biweekly pay.
