SUMMARY
The Wastewater Treatment Supervisor oversees daily operations, inspections, maintenance, monitoring and reporting for the City's wastewater treatment system, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards. Key responsibilities for this position include performing routine sampling and analysis, making operational decisions based on treatment conditions, maintaining accurate records, preparing reports and ensuring timely submission of required documentation to regulatory agencies. This position serves as the Designated System Supervisor (DSS) for and the wastewater treatment system.

PAYBase Pay: $34.41 - 41.83 per hour, plus pay premiums, overtime pay and on-call pay.
Pay Premiums: 2.5% Wastewater Treatment DSS
On-Call Pay: $300 per week
SCHEDULEThe regular schedule for this position is full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM. Subject to 24-hour call out, 7 days a week in emergencies during assigned on-call weeks.
MOVING EXPENSESThe City will reimburse for up to $5,000 of eligible moving expenses. In accordance with IRS regulations, reimbursement for moving expenses is a taxable fringe benefit.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSOPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE
- Performs the duties required of a certified wastewater treatment operator and Designated System Supervisor (DSS) for City's Level II wastewater treatment system.
- Inspects and reviews wastewater treatment plant operations, including equipment operation, wastewater processing, and state of wastewater upon plant entry and after treatment.
- Ensures compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management requirements for chlorine gas.
- Determines treatment actions to ensure that effluent discharge meets requirements of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit.
- Performs maintenance and repair of the mechanical and electrical systems in the wastewater treatment system.
- Performs repairs to pumps and other plant equipment.
- Monitors landfill leachate, methane gas, and storm water, combined sewer outfalls, and other monitoring as assigned.
- Maintains current knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
ADMINISTRATIVE AND LABORATORY
- Consistently and accurately collects wastewater samples and performs laboratory tests to assess composition, following established best practices and safety protocols.
- Maintains accurate records of wastewater operations to include flows, treatment and maintenance activities and enters data accurately and in a timely manner into computerized databases.
- Prepares and submits wastewater operations reports in compliance with city, state, and federal regulations, ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Inventories and orders laboratory equipment, parts, supplies and treatment chemicals.
- Recommends budget for items related to wastewater treatment, operation and maintenance.
- Recommends and establishes project schedules, task priorities, methods and procedures.
- Maintains physical security and cleanliness of wastewater facilities, sites and grounds.

- Considerable knowledge of wastewater stabilization lagoon treatment techniques and procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of state and federal regulations and requirements for operation of sewer treatment, influent and effluent sampling, testing and analysis methods, safety precautions related to wastewater treatment chemicals and hazards.
- Knowledge of safety precautions related to wastewater treatment chemicals and hazards (to include chlorine gas feed), and confined space entry procedures.
- Knowledge of pump station and collection system operations.
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.
- Proven leadership experience in training, directing and coaching employees involved in wastewater operations.
This position is responsible for supervision of the wastewater treatment system and will direct the work of employees assigned to support wastewater operations.
