I:
Position Summary
* This employee is responsible for organizing, implementing, and supporting accommodated instructional strategies to meet the needs of GT and MTSS students in their basic education classes at the middle school. The specialist provides direct services to students, as well as collaborates and consults with staff members to support the implementation of appropriate instructional strategies and interventions in the regular classroom.
In addition, this specialist is responsible for coordinating the school's process for GT and MTSS. This includes identification of students in need of support, data analysis of student performance, and development and monitoring of plans.
II:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Plan, select and use appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflects accommodation for individual needs of students assigned.
* Design or select appropriate instructional accommodations for GT and MTSS students and coordinate these activities with other teachers as appropriate.
* Prepare, implement, and evaluate an annual educational plan for each student based on individually assessed needs in accordance with district procedures.
* Consult with parents, administrators, counselors, teachers, community agencies, and other relevant individuals regarding GT and MTSS students.
* Seek a variety of services through community resources and agencies to meet the needs of GT and MTSS students.
* Provide direct consultation to classroom teachers for implementation of strategies.
* Team teach with regular classroom instructors to support GT and MTSS students when needed.
* Participate on evaluation teams for GT and MTSS students as appropriate.
* Provide specialized instruction to individual and small groups of GT and MTSS students when necessary to support learning content.
* Ensure each GT and MTSS student has necessary documentation, data, and consultation in his/her records.
* Complete progress reports on each student as required.
* Complete reports for appropriate local and state educational agencies as necessary/required.
* Document ongoing consultation with basic education teachers and maintaining a record of accommodated instructional strategies and results for each student where appropriate.
* Attend and participate in faculty meetings and other meetings as required.
* Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
* Participate in the district staff development program.
* Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
* Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local board policy.
* Ensures full attendance on all contracted work days as outlined in the employment agreement, including arriving on time and remaining for the entire contracted day.
* Be present and actively engaged during the scheduled workdays according to the school's academic calendar, observing holidays, breaks, and scheduled professional development days as appropriate.
* Arrive on time for all scheduled workdays and meetings, including the beginning of school, lunch breaks, and any special assignments, ensuring minimal disruption to the academic schedule.
* Notify the appropriate school personnel in advance for any anticipated absences, including following district procedures for requesting leave, and provide documentation when necessary.
* In the event of an absence, ensure that appropriate substitute plans are prepared and submitted in accordance with school policy, facilitating a smooth transition for students.
