π Unit Details- L&D Beds: 5 LDRP beds
- OR Suites for C-Sections: 1
- Triage Beds: 0
- Postpartum Beds: 3 (C-section recovery rooms)
- Birth Volume: ~18β20 births/month (~225 per year)
- Follows Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) guidelines
- Day shift: 3 nurses
- Night shift: 2 nurses
- Charge nurse takes patient assignments
- BLS
- NRP
- ACLS
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
- AWHONN preferred
Level 1 Obstetric & Nursery care.
Common cases include:
- Pre-eclampsia
- Gestational Diabetes (GDM) if well controlled
- Deliveries 36 weeks and above
β οΈ High-risk pregnancies are typically transferred out if safe.
Traveler responsibilities include:
- Labor
- Postpartum care
- Newborn care
- Triage
Currently not scrubbing/circulating C-sections, but may be required in the future.
π Drips / MedicationsRNs must titrate drips, including:
- Oxytocin (Pitocin)
- Magnesium sulfate
- Insulin (occasionally)
- 15 OB physicians from 3 clinics
- On-call system
- MD arrival: 10β15 minutes
For imminent deliveries, the ER physician can assist.
π« Respiratory / Equipment- Neopuff T-Piece resuscitator experience preferred
- EFM System: GE CPN Monitor System with Novii
- RNs must be competent in EFM documentation
- No nurse aides or surgical techs
- No telemetry/monitor techs
- 12-hour shifts
- Days: 0700β1930
- Nights: 1900β0730
- Block scheduling possible
- Manager creates schedule
- Must be flexible for days or nights (straight nights possible)
- Experience: 2β3 years OB experience
- Must be independent in Labor, Postpartum, and Newborn care
- Weekends: 2 per 4-week schedule
- Holidays: Every other holiday
- 2 Γ 12-hour calls per 4 weeks
- Night call: 1900β0730
- 1-hour response time
Required to float to other departments on low census as:
- RN helper
- CNA helper
- Purple scrubs provided
- 1β2 days unit orientation
