Randolph-Macon College invites applications for a full-time position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Korean Studies in the Department of Asian Studies to begin September 1, 2026. The position is for one year with the possibility of renewal for up to three years.

Randolph-Macon College is a nationally-recognized residential institution of about 1800 students located in Ashland, Virginia, just north of Richmond. The Department of Asian Studies provides students with a strong foundation in the languages, cultures, histories, and societies of Asia through an interdisciplinary curriculum that integrates courses across diverse fields of study. The department offers distinctive hands-on learning opportunities, including January term travel courses and exchange partnerships with institutions such as Yonsei University in South Korea.
Major/
Essential Functions:
Randolph-Macon College faculty teach, advise, conduct research and engage in scholarship, and serve the college and department. Primary teaching responsibilities will include introductory courses in Korean language and a secondary field and contributions to general education.
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD in Korean, Asian Studies, or a related field; we will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status and who will complete their degree by August 1, 2026;
- Prior experience in teaching Korean language courses and a second area of specialization, such as Korean culture, society, literature, music, film, or history
- Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching
- Evidence of a commitment to undergraduate teaching and student engagement
- Experience working with students and a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical methods that support all learners in reaching their maximum potential
- Experience teaching introductory / first-year Korean language courses to undergraduates
- Ability to teach courses in a secondary geographic region in Asia (such as Japan, China, Southeast Asia, or South Asia), or courses that are multiregional or comparative in scope
