Overview

The Lead Teacher is responsible for curriculum implementation and classroom management. The Lead Teacher promotes the social, physical and intellectual growth of the children under his/her care and works with the school's staff to create an environment of learning and keeps parents informed of the progress of child(ren).

Responsibilities
  • Implements the company-provided curriculum, including communicating and interpreting it, both verbally and in writing, by preparing written, age-appropriate lesson plans.
  • Creates age-appropriate lesson plans for each child by observing development and listening to verbal feedback during classroom activities.
  • Interacts with children and models socially-appropriate behavior on the playground and in the classroom, and participates in physical activities that engage each child.
  • Conducts regular classroom observations reflecting the age-appropriate interests of children in the Lead Teacher's classroom.
  • Maintains a safe and healthy learning environment by adhering to policies and procedures and reporting potential hazards or injuries; ensures attendance is completed accurately.
  • Communicates suspected child abuse or neglect to local child protective agencies as required by law.
  • Provides daily, written and oral feedback to parents regarding the social and intellectual development of their child(ren).
  • Attends all staff trainings and meetings conducted by the school director.
  • Treats each child with respect and dignity, recognizing and considering each child's unique background, including children with disabilities.
  • Creates and maintains an intellectually stimulating and age-appropriate classroom environment through creative means, including displaying student artwork and crafts and documenting learning.
  • Regularly opens and closes the assigned classroom in the morning and evening and conducts daily attendance both visually and in writing.
  • Keeps the classroom clean by sweeping, sanitizing toys and surfaces, and disposing of garbage as needed.
Requirements
  • Must meet state licensing requirements for education.
  • Must possess the ability to coach others, provide positive direction, and delegate tasks to accomplish classroom objectives.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Must have at least two (2) years of experience in a licensed childcare center.
  • Preferred: a degree in early childhood development, a CDA, or similar education and CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Must be able to communicate, both verbally and in writing.
  • The Lead Teacher shall support other teachers and assistant teachers to accomplish classroom objectives through positive coaching and development by acting as a resource in the school and supporting the delivery of quality educational programming.
