Position Description

The Youth Programs Coordinator creates inclusive learning environments for students and instructors across race, ethnicity, ability, and other identity factors. Responsibilities include implementing, coordinating, developing, and supervising pre‑college youth programs—academic camps, competitions, and enrichment classes for ages 6‑18. The role initiates collaborative efforts among SOU departments, regional schools, and educational entities, building long‑term partnerships to grow enrollment.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience supporting equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Experience with curriculum development and collaboration with instructors.
  • Experience coordinating classes, workshops, and special events.
  • Self‑directed with ability to work independently on project and program management.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and database software.
Preferred Requirements
  • Secondary or post‑secondary teaching experience.
  • Experience planning, hiring, and overseeing multi‑site programs.
  • Marketing and promotional skills for brochures and class listings.
  • Budget cost analysis experience.
Essential Functions

(40%) Administer and Supervise Academic Competitions

  • Solicit competing teams from schools.
  • Establish rules and select judges.
  • Support event coordinators and volunteer recruitment.
  • Schedule dates, secure rooms, order catering, arrange parking, create supplies, brochures, and notifications.
  • Coordinate with admissions and academic departments to ensure enrollment and program success.
  • Work with the Youth Programs Associate Director to track competition cohorts and matriculation rates.

(30%) Coordinate and Implement SOU Academic Department Partnership Programming

  • Coordinate campus partners and staff for program needs.
  • Work with data vendor for student application and registration content.
  • Submit and track wage agreements and contracts; adjust for changes.
  • Coordinate building access, negotiate rental agreements, and procure course supplies.
  • Administer course evaluations; use data to improve offerings.
  • Act as primary site supervisor for instructors.

(20%) Provide Instructional Coordination for Residential Camps

  • Develop academic enrichment offerings and coordinate with camp directors.
  • Recruit instructors and process course proposals.
  • Submit and track agreements and payroll paperwork.
  • Develop course descriptions and coordinate technical requests (software, login, parking, HVAC, key/fob).
  • Communicate with camp staff, academic departments, and building managers; troubleshoot during camps.
  • Supervise volunteers and staff for residential programs.

(10%) Program Recruitment and Marketing

  • Create marketing materials (pamphlets, posters, newsletters, brochures, flyers, webpages, social media, email ads).
  • Promote pathways from non‑credit to pre‑college programs with the Associate Director of Outreach and Engagement.
