Overview
What we need:
We are seeking energetic, passionate people who enjoy the outdoors and want to play a key role for the position of seasonal (unclassified) Lifeguard within the Division of Parks & Watercraft, headlined at Mohican State Park, assigned to Ashland County. - Rescue swimmers in distress (enter water to aid potential drowning victims; use rescue equipment to tow/pull swimmer to safety) and perform emergency first aid (administer CPR; control bleeding; cover victim).
- Guard designated swimming area against drownings and related accidents; advise public of provisions of Ohio Revised Code and Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Parks & Watercraft Division rules and regulations; request public’s compliance with laws, rules & regulations; attend training sessions.
- Complete incident report forms; inspect safety equipment for repairs; maintain swimming area (pick up litter, empty trash, check restrooms, vending machines, mow grass, paint surfaces); keep supervisor informed of maintenance needs (cleaning, chemical adjustments, repairs).
- Hourly pay of $20.58/hr.

Work hoursThese positions are utilized during the division's anticipated busiest season and may include weekends, evenings & rotating shifts.
Unusual working conditionsExposure to weather; exposure to potentially hostile general public; exposure to danger in performing water rescue.
Please noteThese seasonal positions will remain at step 1 of the pay range and are not eligible for benefits (e.g., vision, dental, life, health insurance, holiday pay, leave accruals, any other paid leave, shift differentials, etc.).
Certification requirements:
American Red Cross lifeguard training certificate or equivalent (e.g., American Red Cross lifeguard certificate 2, YMCA lifeguard certificate, BSA lifeguard certificate, BSA aquatic instructor certificate, Ellis & Associates national pool & waterpark lifeguard training certificate or nationally recognized equivalent); CPR certificate. If required to work longer than four months, the final applicant accepted will submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use;
a positive result will disqualify employment per Section 3719.01 & 3719.41 of the Ohio Revised Code.
