Overview

HPC Industrial's Ashland, KY team is looking for Environmental Technician I. HPC Industrial, a Clean Harbors company, is the leading provider of environmental, energy and industrial services throughout North America. The Company serves a diverse customer base, including a majority of Fortune 500 companies, thousands of smaller private entities and numerous federal, state, provincial and local governmental agencies. The Environmental Technician I is responsible for hazardous waste clean-up, site-remediation, equipment decontamination and handling of hazardous materials.

No experience required. This position is 100% travel.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times
  • Engage in strenuous physical labor including lifting, pulling and pushing heavy objects
  • Operate light and heavy equipment including pumps, vacuum equipment, oil spill boom, generators and bobcats
  • Perform emergency response activities including chemical and water spills, etiological and biological contamination, tank cleaning and equipment decontamination
  • Complete associated paperwork, including daily worksheets, vehicle inspections, equipment inspections and Health and Safety requirements and permits
  • Be on-call 24/7, and coordinate coverage and replacement with the coordinator
  • Inspect vehicles, equipment and Health & Safety compliance; notify supervisor of mechanical failures
  • Adhere to Health & Safety regulations and compliance
  • Wear and properly use Levels A, B, C & D PPE including respirators and protective gear
  • May direct the work of Environmental Technician I and II
  • Assist in field sampling activities and calibration of meters
  • On occasion, work weekends and holidays due to emergency response and operational needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management to meet the needs of the business
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Required to complete confined space entry (CSE) and 40 Hour OSHA Training
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Able to travel, work weekends, and wear a pager
  • PC skills
  • Ability to walk, climb, speak, listen, color determination and vision at 2 feet or more (with or without lenses)
  • Attention to detail and ability to perform multiple tasks
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision and to complete assigned work
  • Understanding of manpower and equipment required for assignments
  • Strong mechanical ability and demonstrated leadership ability

Skills:

  • Position involves strenuous physical exertion
  • Available for 24/7 on-call basis
  • Requires standing, lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Requires pulling/pushing, carrying, grasping, reaching, crawling, stooping and crouching in confined spaces; requires walking, climbing, speaking, listening, color determination and vision at 2 feet or more
  • Requires wearing and using PPE including Levels A, B, C, D & E, and full encapsulation PPE which can elevate body temperature during exertion
